The cost of textbooks and other course materials is a major concern and financial barrier for students attending Portland State University. PDXOpen: Reducing Student Textbook Costs, a PSU Library program to address this issue, was launched in to provide technical and financial support for faculty members to create open textbooks that aim to reduce costs for students and better position Portland State University as a leader in academic innovation. In Portland State University published a report on the cost of textbooks and course materials to the University community. The University also joined the Open Textbook Network to help support the growth of open textbooks and encourage adoption of open textbooks. PDXOpen is an open access textbook publishing initiative designed to support Portland State University faculty developing open access textbooks. We work with faculty authors to publish high-quality open access textbooks designed specifically for their courses, that are free to students at our university and to anyone throughout the world.
