The Heir and the Spare | Book by Emily Albright | Official Publisher Page | Simon & Schuster

Thank you! Evie Gray is an American freshman at Oxford University with a few unusual twists to her life story. Of course there are bumps along the way, principally in connection with the first boy she falls for at Oxford, who just happens to be Prince Edmund, in line for the English throne. In this debut novel inspired by the recent royal wedding, Albright gives her readers an engaging and plausible glimpse into the lives of well-connected college students. When Evie eventually realizes who Edmund is, she determines that she will not allow his royal status to interfere with her genuine feelings for him.

The Heir and the Spare is a sweet, witty romance book that is absolutely swoon-worthy and enjoyable to read. Following the instructions in the letters that her mother left for her to receive after she died, she applies and gets accepted to Oxford, which is the college her mother attended, and the college where her parents met. I immediately knew I would like Evie. Which honestly is a pretty good way to spend an evening. I mean, how can you argue with a book character who has a wonderful love of Doctor Who and pizza? Yep, not me. Loved her character right off the bat.

Soon after starting university in Oxford, Evie finds herself falling in love with her very own prince charming—who turns out to be an actual prince—in this contemporary novel that is Anna and the French Kiss with a royal family twist.
