Pride and prejudice short book review
Book Review: Pride and Prejudice - Words on WordsSet in the early s, in the fictional town of Merton, live the Bennett family, who are comfortably well off with a family of five daughters. However, there is one misfortune - there is no son. Although it must have been possible to change the will so the women could inherit, it would ruin the story. Therefore Mrs Bennett, their silly empty-headed mother, is obsessed with marrying them off. The daughters are: 22 year old Jane, the most beautiful young woman in the neighbourhood, who is sweet, kind and sensible but thinks well of everyone and is rather naive. Then there is 20 year old Elizabeth, mostly known as Lizzie or sometimes Eliza, who is the heroine of the novel and witty, clever and lively, but not as beautiful as Jane. However, one of the daughters must marry very well, and love in marriage was of little consequence in those days.

Her father is the owner of Longbourn state, but given that he does not have a son to inherit the property, the same must go to a cousin of his, leaving his daughters economically unsustained when he dies. It is then a matter of great importance for at least one of the sisters to marry well, and so, be able to support the others. The person who is more enthusiastic when it comes to carrying on that plan is Mrs. Bennet, whose biggest wish is to have all their daughters married. The move of a wealthy gentleman to the neighborhood seems to be what this lady has been waiting for.
A British classic whose success continues, and another of my many favorites. Here are the reasons that make “Pride and Prejudice” a.
