Book Review: Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch – Remarkablylisa

Sign up for our newsletters! Nothing has been the same between Addie and her brother, Ian, since the boy she liked broke her heart. This book is sure to leave a smile on your face, waiting for what Welch comes up with next. However, readers don't need to read the first book to fully experience this one. The backdrop is absolutely stunning. Welch is able to describe the lush fields and precarious mountain sides as if readers are right there with the characters.

To wit:. Walt leaned forward, shaking himself free of me also. If they all sucked in. Through her interactions with Rowan, who becomes a co-commiserator in the Land of Heartbreak, she is revealed to herself and others as a kind, impulsive, dedicated, angry, helpful Person. Through her interactions with her brother Ian, which could have shown her to be nothing but selfish and mean-spirited, she is shown to crave harmony. In the end, her biggest problem is her ability to own her past mistakes, which is a very relatable character flaw.

Thank you! When her family travels to Ireland for a wedding, Addie plans a side trip to Italy, intent on visiting her best friend who moved to live with her father in Florence and fixing her life. A quick-tempered athlete who is a whiz at fixing cars but struggles with school, Addie is a welcome departure from the bookish, quirky characters who are so often the heroines of teen romances. The only weakness of this fast-paced, witty read is its lack of diversity: The characters are uniformly white, straight, middle-class, and nondisabled. A skillfully rendered exploration of heartbreak, friendship, family, and destiny—and a quick and enjoyable read. There was a problem adding your email address.
