A Boy and His Dog - Wikipedia

Nature has reclaimed our planet, yes, but only because, years before the book begins, most of humanity died off. Add to Bag. All is relatively right in the world for young narrator Griz, a child of this new epoch. Their precarious but happy existence is through off kilter when a roguish traveler named Brand, full of stories and braggadocio about the outside world, makes landfall on their island. Griz heads out to parts unknown with his remaining dog Jip, hoping to track Brand and his flamboyant red-sailed ship across the sea to the lands beyond and reclaim his loyal pup. The boy in the photo—taken well before things went south, apocalyptically speaking—provides a touching thematic bridge to a past Griz has never known. As the boy wanders the nature-reclaimed countryside, Fletcher shares, through the innocent eyes of his narrator, rich glimmers and glimpses of what once was, and what it has become.

Vic and Blood: The Chronicles of a Boy and His Dog

Dystopian novels are all the rage. Moreover, no fictional dystopia matches the historical realities of the Nazi death-camps or the Soviet gulag. Not only the human part, as it turns out. Dogs were affected too and now very few bitches are born. Only a tiny number of people escaped the Gelding.

The cycle tells the story of an amoral boy Vic and his telepathic dog Blood , who work together as a team to survive in the post-apocalyptic world after a nuclear war. The original novella was followed by short stories and a graphic novel. Ellison began the cycle with the short story of the same title, published in New Worlds , and expanded and revised the tale to novella length for his story collection The Beast that Shouted Love at the Heart of the World the same year. The cycle begins chronologically with " Eggsucker ", which chronicles the early years of the association between the young loner Vic and his brilliant, telepathic dog, Blood. Martin's Press , , a three-story graphic novel collection illustrated by Richard Corben , who also illustrated for this collection two other short stories featuring Vic and Blood: "Eggsucker" a prequel to A Boy and His Dog , first published in Thomas Durward, ed. Ellison's introduction to the collection explains that 's A Boy and His Dog is part of a larger novel that he has been writing for over 30 years and that story is finished, but the last, longest part is written as a screenplay with no current plans for production. Ellison considered as late as that he would combine the three stories possibly with additional material to create a novel with the proposed title of Blood's a Rover not to be confused with the Chad Oliver story or the James Ellroy novel Blood's a Rover.
